Philadelphia to become huge wireless Internet hot spot - SEPT 3, 2004

Wireless internet ... I upgraded my LynkSys router last year because the onboard software was getting a bit old and I needed a few new features that todays routers offer (like port triggering). Anyway, for 20 bucks more, I got a router with wireless access. I used it a little bit with my lap top and it worked pretty well. I usually had problems when I was booting up and a network connection wasn't detected until after the software was loaded. Most computers are probably fine today - the laptop was a 100Mhz computer. One day, I will get a better laptop (with working batteries) and try the wireless thing out again.

Anyway ... one day, it would be great if wireless access was just about everywhere. My cable bill charges about 40-50 dollars to access the internet. The good news is, with the play stations, servers, and desktop computers in my house, I have up to 8 connections behind my firewall accessing the internet through the same line. So I guess I can't complain to much since I'm only supposed to have 1 connection. It is still a steep price.

Colledges usually include internet access with the price of tuition. However, are the students now paying for everyone in the area to access the internet. Hmm...
